What is GMO 2.0?

It can replace nature.
Full stop.
We’ve entered the genetic Wild West where anyone can redirect the streams of evolution.
With gene editing techniques such as CRISPR, genetic engineering is cheap and accessible, prone to side effects, without meaningful regulation, and able to create self-propagating GMOs. This is a recipe for disaster.

Anything with DNA is up for grabs. Nature could be permanently corrupted by countless GMOs and our food supply – INCLUDING ORGANIC – could be overrun.

Our choice, our health, and our future, are in the balance.

Who holds the Keys

to the Kingdoms?
Now (for hopefully a limited time) everyone from politicians to terrorists to the kid down the street can forever alter the gene pool. That’s right. The fate of the plant, animal, and microbial kingdoms rests with ANYONE.

We need YOU to help us protect nature now.

CRISPR

CRISPR is a cheap method of cutting and editing DNA. The prestigious journal, Nature, describes its unpredictable side effects as “chromosomal mayhem.” Responsible use of this technology is imperative.

Stealth GMOs in your Food

Gene edited GMOs do not require safety tests, are becoming super easy to produce, and don’t need labels. Virtually anyone will be able to slip them into your diet, with unpredictable consequences.

Gene Drives

Gene drives can quickly alter or even wipe out an entire species. They insert genetic engineering machinery that’s passed to offspring, forcing all generations to express the selected gene.

RNAI

Short pieces of RNA can reprogram genes. Evidence suggests that the RNA added to certain GMO crops and insecticides might accidentally alter our gene expression.

The most urgent and

Immediate Threat!

Microbes are the most dangerous organisms to gene edit. They can circle the globe with alarming speed, mutate, exchange genetic material with other species, promote human disease, and damage or collapse ecosystems.

The community of microbes (microbiome) is essential. Algae produces 70% of the world’s oxygen. Underground fungal networks support trees. Microbes living inside us can determine if we’re healthy or sick, overweight or thin, even our mood. Messing with microbes is a disaster waiting to happen.

“Not on our watch!”
September 12, 2022: The White House issued an Executive Order on “Advancing Biotechnology…,” The order requires “concrete steps to reduce biological risks associated with advances in biotechnology” and “input from external experts.”

It is a moment in time to push our issue onto the world stage and sound the alarm for responsible use of this potentially nature altering technology .

The clock is ticking. Plans are due to the White House by mid-March. IRT is building a coalition of NGOs, scientists, and activists to submit expert recommendations and educate the public on the potential risks of GMO 2.0s. We need to move quickly and we need your help.

Please make a donation today so we can influence US regulations and set a safe direction for biotechnology in the US and around the world.

Let’s safeguard our future together.
